Urbanization and rising vehicle numbers have intensified parking shortages in cities, with drivers wasting time hunting for spots—fueling congestion, higher emissions, and pollution. This paper examines a Smart QR-Based Vehicle Parking System through a practical case study. Built as an Android app, it lets users locate nearby parking zones, view live slot availability, reserve spaces, and receive a unique QR code for secure gate access. The study evaluates how such a digital solution boosts urban mobility, eases traffic, and simplifies life for drivers. By combining geolocation, real-time data syncing, and QR scanning, it optimizes parking workflows: bookings trigger instant QR generation for frictionless entry verification. Results show the system cuts search times, maximizes space use, boosts operational transparency, and advances smart city goals—ultimately streamlining infrastructure and driving digital upgrades in parking.
KEYWORDS
The implementation of the proposed smart parking system workflow significantly improves the efficiency, convenience, and security of parking management. By enabling users to search nearby parking areas, the system reduces the time and distance traveled in search of available spaces, thereby easing traffic congestion and fuel consumption. When users check slot availability in real time, they can make informed decisions before reaching the parking site, which enhances user experience and optimizes space utilization. The feature to book parking slots in advance reduces uncertainty and prevents last-minute conflicts, ensuring that reserved spaces are genuinely available when the user arrives. After booking, a QR code is generated and linked to the reservation details, providing a unique and tamper-resistant token for access control. At the entry gate, the guard scans the QR code, and the system instantly verifies the booking, allowing only authorized vehicles to enter and minimizing manual errors and fraudulent entries. Finally, when the QR code is successfully scanned, the system records the entry in the database, capturing vehicle details, slot number, entry time, and user information. This centralized logging supports accurate monitoring, reporting, and future analysis of parking patterns, which can guide infrastructure planning and policy decisions. Overall, the integration of these steps—searching nearby parking areas, checking availability, booking slots, generating QR codes, scanning at entry, and recording entries in the database—creates a streamlined, transparent, and user-friendly parking ecosystem that contributes to smarter urban mobility and better utilization of parking resources.
