Abstract

Undoubtedly, in the last couple of decades, the increasing attention to various environmental problems and the necessity to implement sustainable development strategies have impacted the field of interior design greatly. In particular, the integration of various eco-friendly solutions and practices has emerged to be one of the main concerns for both researchers and interior designers. That is why the current research paper aims to investigate the usage of the above-named natural resources—mud, stone, and wood—to prove their significance for today's world. Undoubtedly, the mentioned natural sources have already been used in various types of architecture for a long period of time. However, nowadays, they acquire new meaning, being employed as a tool that can help people cope with problems related to climate changes, limited resources, as well as the desire to create healthy environment for oneself and future generations. The paper will explore the ways of using the above-named natural materials in contemporary interior designs in terms of aesthetic qualities and practical usefulness. Furthermore, the paper will analyze the environmental, economic, and psychological implications caused by implementing those natural sources in modern interiors. Being natural materials, the above-named ones are likely to be renewable, biodegradable, and more advantageous than synthetic resources, which is important from environmental point of view. Besides, the economic advantages should not be neglected as well as the psychological effects that can be achieved thanks to implementing natural materials. The methodology of the current research paper implies literature review as well as the analysis of the most successful case studies. Undoubtedly, those approaches will allow obtaining useful information about the issue under discussion. Overall, the current paper demonstrates that incorporating natural materials into modern interior designs may be a promising solution to environmental, economical, and social problems.
